Update for the Week of June 6th

As we approach Summer, it is common for families to take a Summer vacation. Please keep me informed of any dates your child will miss by completing the GoogleDoc found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qW6TNyvukI5ObW8hsEVdTNhH0NUhi1dJSliyCYshedc/edit?usp=sharing . Also, please continue to be flexible with dates as rain-outs and make-ups will begin to alter our schedule from the beginning of the season. We will do our best to keep events on Tuesdays, Fridays, & Saturdays, but this is not always possible. Our next make-up game will be on Monday June 14th. Finally, it is extremely helpful when all players are at our games a half-hour before the 1st pitch. This gives us time to warm-up, take infield, and do a quick batting practice. It also gives us time to address any issues before the game starts.

This week...

Update for the Week of May 23rd

Tuesday May 25th: Practice at Summit #1 6:30pm. The practice plan can be found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CCrpbJum0BD1IcJuwVJryQRHLRmyp_Ud_9dHCXm6YcY/edit?usp=sharing

Our kids did a very good job hitting this past Saturday. We need to continue to build off of this success and work to hit more line-drives and doubles as the season progresses. Remind your kids to step directly at the pitcher, as we have too many players "stepping out" (stepping towards 3rd base as opposed to the pitcher). We are also doing better on fielding the ball and throwing to 1st base. I think we have reached the point in the season where the players know what to do. Now, we need to get our players to field and throw more efficiently and with a greater sense of purpose. Now that our players know what to do we are going to work on them doing it more quickly. This week we will also begin playing players at more appropriate positions. Some players are beginning to stand out at certain positions. While every play will still play in the infield and outfield each game, a few players will begin seeing more consistent work at positions like 1st base, pitcher, catcher, and short stop. Many of these decisions are driven based on the player's ability to focus on the game and energy level. For safety reasons, players who are more easily distracted may not see action at the above mentioned positions. Since we have limited time for practice and games, it is important to be on time. Please remember to arrive 30min before any scheduled game. It is also important that we start practices promptly at 6:30pm. If your child is going to miss or be late for any event, please use the appropriate GoogleDoc at the end of this message to keep me informed. Thanks.

Update for the Week of April 25ht
by posted 04/25/2021

I heard very good things about our team on Saturday. It sounded like the boys hit the ball very well. I also want to thank Mr. Ryan Morgan and the other coaches for handling things in my absence. I will be relying heavily on parents over the next two weeks as I am involved with other responsibilities at Anderson High School. Thank you in advance for your assistance, understanding, and cooperation.

This week we begin playing two games per week. For this Friday (April 30th) and Saturday (May 1st), I am requesting that players arrive 30 minutes before game time. We need this time to make sure players are organized with their equipment, know where to sit on the bench, have time to warm up, and have a chance to do a few drills prior to the start of the game. Moving forward, please remember that players will need to be at the field 30min prior to game time. We are also going to begin being a bit more selective of players who play 1st Base, Catcher, or Pitcher. For safety reasons, it is imperative that players in these positions are hyper-focused. These positions need to be fully engaged in the game in order to prevent injuries. For this reason, players who have the ability to remain focused during a game will most likely play these spots. We will always continue to make sure players play multiple positions throughout a game (both infield and outfield), but 1st, Pitcher, and Catcher will be reserved for players with greater attention spans. Thanks.

Schedule for the Week:

4/27 Tuesday: Practice @ Summit#1 6:30pm

4/30 Friday: Game @ Sherwood#1 6:00pm (arrive by 5:30pm). Snacks provided by The Wolf Family.

5/1 Saturday: Game @ Sherwood #1 12:00pm (arrive by 11:30am). Snacks provided by The Turnick Family.

*We do have some players who have peanut allergies, so please avoid any snacks containing nuts. Thank you.

Update for the Week of April 4th

This message will contain multiple GoogleDocs that will need your input, so please read this message in its entirety.

Conflicts with Games & Practices:

Please use the GoogleDoc at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qW6TNyvukI5ObW8hsEVdTNhH0NUhi1dJSliyCYshedc/edit?usp=sharing to keep me informed of any practice or game your child may miss. The sooner I know of an absence the better I can plan for practices and games. In addition, I would appreciate it if you could email me at jasonlynch@foresthills.edu or text me at 513-460-9116 the week of any game or practice your child won't be attending.

Snack Sign-Ups:

We are requesting that each family provide snacks for two games this season. Please use the GoogleDoc at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jp3onD49shQrwSKlb8OWwuFftCBNZiH2UQ_ox4yQAA4/edit?usp=sharing to select a date to provide snacks. The snacks may be something small like a bag of chips and/or a juice box. In order to account for allergies, please refrain from any peanut-based snacks. If your child has a specific allergy to a particular food, please let me know so we can plan accordingly.

Schedules:

Game schedules are now posted to the ATLL web-site. For the most part, we will always practice on Tuesdays, and games will be on Fridays and Saturdays.

Volunteers:

I would like to take a moment to thank all of the parents who have assisted so far this season. I especially want to thank Mr. Pastura, Mr. McCreary, Mr. Schaeff, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Case, & Mr. Turnick. We have been blessed with great parental support this year, and I do believe it will benefit our players in the long run. During April and May, I have increased responsibilities as a baseball coach at Anderson High School. Therefore, I will be relying on our assistant coaches and parents to run our practices and games on the nights I can't be there. I have done my best to avoid conflicts on Tuesdays for practices, but the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) plays varsity baseball games on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This means that I will not be at the first few Friday games of the season. I know that our talented and dedicated coaches will be able to manage these contests accordingly, but in an effort to remain completely transparent, I wanted everyone to know that I will be missing games on a few occassions this season. Thankfully, we have a great group of parents who can assist in this process.

Anderson High School Baseball Camp:

Anderson High School will be holding a Summer Baseball Camp for anyone in grades 1-8 the Week of June 14th-17th. If you are interested, you may register at https://andersonboosters.wufoo.com/forms/mds6srg1r5zpcj/

Practice Times & Other Important Information
by posted 03/16/2021

Welcome Parents & Players,

This email is to confirm your child's placement with the AA-Tigers for the Spring season of Anderson Township Little League Baseball. My name is Jason Lynch, and I will be coaching your child this spring. The following information in this email will outline some of the important aspects needed to create a successful experience for your child in youth baseball. Please read the following information carefully as it will detail your responsibilities as a parent and the expectations of your child. Thanks for your help, and I look forward to an enjoyable baseball season with your children.

PRACTICE & GAME TIMES:
Practices will be every Tuesday from 6:30pm-8:00am at Summit #1, located behind Summit Elementary. Our first practice
is Tuesday March 23rd. Players are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes before every practice, so we have enough time to warm-up. Games will be held every Friday and Saturday. Friday games typically begin at 6:00pm, and games on Saturday could be anywhere from 9:00am to 3:00pm. We should be receiving our official schedule sometime in the next two weeks. You will receive a notification from ATLL once schedules are officially posted to the league web-site. Players are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes before every scheduled game. This time is needed to warm-up and take infield. Please make sure your child arrives at practices and games at the appropriate time.

UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT:
Your child will be given a hat and shirt at the first practice. It is your responsibility to provide pants/belts, socks, cleats, and gloves for your child. My recommendation would be to purchase gray, white, or black pants from a sporting goods store like Dick's. Also, your child will need to wear pants (NOT SHORTS) to every practice in case we practice sliding. ATLL does provide helmets and bats for each team, but my experience has shown me that most players prefer having their own helment. In addition, it would be my preference that each player have his/her own helmet to avoid any contamination while we still have to adhere to COVID protocols. In the next few days, you will receive a link to a GoogleDoc for selecting your child's uniform number. We are given a pre-determined number of jerseys and sizes from ATLL, so there is a chance that your child does not get the uniform size you selected at registration. Because of this, uniforms will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis when parents complete the GoogleDoc.Please fill-in your child's name in the appropriate column on the GoogleDoc once you receive it. Do NOT change any other information in the document. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

RESTROOMS:
Most of the parks that we will play at or have practice do NOT have rest rooms. It is important that your child uses the restroom before coming to any practice or game. Please plan accordingly.

BATTING PRACTICE:
As a coach at Anderson High School, we have the luxury of using the batting cages at times throughout the season. On occassion, I may have open hitting sessions for your children. These are entirely voluntary. They are simply opportunities for your child to improve if he/she wishes.

REMIND:
The primary form of communication that we will use this season is an APP called REMIND101. Please click this link https://www.remind.com/join/tigersaa21 to find instructions for setting up your account. Please do this as soon as possible so you do not miss out on important information. You will also receive information from me through email,
so it is important to check your email frequently.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
At the moment, we have a few parents who have volunteered to help coach (Mr. Pastura, Mr. McCreary, Mr. Morgan, & Mr. Schaeff). Please understand that the experience that your child will have this season is directly correlated to the amount of parent involvement. In order to have a productive baseball season, we need at least four coaches.  Do not worry about your knowledge of baseball. We will find drills and responsibilities that will fit your skill set. We simply need responsible people who are willing to work with our children. If you would be interested in assisting at practices and/or games, please reply to this email with your contact information. Again, we really need one parent for every 2-3 kids in order to make our practices and games effective and to get the most growth from our players this season. Both moms and dads are welcome to help coach. The more involved parents are during this season the better experience we can create for our children. Thank you in advance for helping.

SNACKS:
Once the final schedule is completed and released, you will receive another email from me for snack sign-ups. We are requesting that each parent commit to providing snacks/drinks for at least two games this season. The snacks should be small like a bag of chips, and the drinks could be a small Gatorade or juice box. Please try to refrain from snacks with peanuts due to allergy concerns.

PLAYING TIME:
All kids will play in the field for at least three innings. We will do our best to get each player time in the infield and outfield during each game. There is a continuous batting line-up, so all players will hit regardless of where they play in the field. My goal is for every player to learn the fundamentals of the game. Therefore, your child will play multiple defensive positions throughout a game. We will also spend time teaching players how to pitch and catch. Please remember that this is an instructional league. With that in mind, our goal is to develop the skill set of every individual, not just to put players in positions that they prefer. Kids will play multiple positions, and the batting line-up will be different each game.

PHILOSOPHY:
I am a high school mathematics teacher at Anderson High School, where I also coach varsity football and baseball. I have also been a high school head baseball coach and assistant wrestling coach during my twenty+ years in education. This is NOT high school varsity athletes. Our focus is on the development of your child. Rarely will we talk about winning and losing. My hope and goal for the season is simply to help your child grow as a ball player and have an enjoyable experience. I do not make decisions simply to win a game. That is why our line-ups will be pre-determined. Please understand that I am not a "win-at-all-costs" individual. Our focus will be strictly on growth. If your child is better at baseball in June than he/she was in March and he/she has enjoyed playing, then we will have accomplished our goal.

CONFLICTS:
Please keep me aware of any conflicts that your child may have with any practice or game. The earlier you know of a conflict the better. In order for me to design the appropriate practice plan or game line-up, it is vital that I know well in advance who will be in attendance. Once the schedule is finalized, you will receive another Google Doc from me where you will fill-in the dates of the games and practices that your child will miss. Again, communication is key. Please keep me aware of changes to your schedule that will prevent your child from attending a practice or a game. Keeping in mind that this is an instructional league, it is preferable to miss a game over a practice. Practice is where your child has the chance to learn and grow; players spend most of a game watching. Therefore, your child will have the best opportunity to improve when missing practices is minimized.

QUICK REVIEW:
1. Our first practice is on Tuesday March 23rd at Summit #1 at 6:30pm. Please arrive at least 15 minuted early.
2. We need parent volunteers. Let me know if you can help coach.
3. Make sure your child has pants and that they are worn to every practice and game.
4. Keep me informed of any conflicts with practices and games.
5. Be on the look out for a Snack Sign-Up and Conflicts with Practice Google Doc. These will be sent once
the schedule is finalized.
6. We are here to help your children grow.
7. Remember to sign up for our REMIND account as soon as possible using the link https://www.remind.com/join/tigersaa21.

Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy email. The better we can work together the more fun our players will have this season. I look forward to meeting everyone on March 23rd.
Sincerely,
Jason Lynch
